What still needs human review

The iOS App Icon Checker measures deterministic file facts; iOS applies the final corner mask. Baked-in rounding, App Store shadows, brand clarity, and small-size legibility stay as manual review. Dark and Tinted appearances, and the device sizes Xcode generates from the catalog, are outside this Primary / Any file check. A pixel heuristic cannot honestly predict App Review.

Common iOS app icon problems

These are the export mistakes the iOS app icon checker fails most often: the canvas is not 1024, alpha is still in the PNG, or Primary is mixed with Dark and Tinted.

The canvas is not 1024 x 1024

Export an exact 1024 x 1024 pixel square. Do not stretch a smaller raster file; return to the source artwork so edges and details remain clean at the marketing size.

An alpha channel remains in an opaque-looking PNG

Flatten the Primary artwork onto its intended background and export without alpha or tRNS metadata. The iOS App Icon Checker still flags a PNG that declares an alpha-capable color type, even when its transparent pixels have been filled.

Rounded corners are baked into the artwork

The iOS App Icon Checker expects full square artwork; let iOS apply the final mask. A pre-rounded image can create double rounding, unwanted borders, or transparent corner data.

Fine details disappear at small sizes

Inspect the Scale Rail at 16, 32, 64, and 128 pixels. Simplify hairlines, tiny lettering, or low-contrast details when the mark stops reading clearly.

Primary, Dark, and Tinted rules are mixed together

Use this page only for the flattened Primary / Any source. Review Dark and Tinted assets with their own appearance guidance instead of treating one alpha result as universal.

Before adding the icon to Xcode

  • Handle appearance variants separately

    Do not infer Dark or Tinted readiness from this Primary / Any rule pack.

  • Verify the packaged app

    After configuring the asset in Xcode, inspect the built app on the supported devices and appearances you ship.
